We asked what her favorite go-to hairstyles were for filming a workout and enduring her toughest training sessions. Here are her top four (4).

4 Fight-Worthy (and Film-Worthy) Hairstyles For Your Workout

1. Space Buns

Workout Hairstyle - Space Buns

“The braided space bun can endure an intense workout more than the traditional bun. It’s also safe for acrobatic exercises, running, HIIT, or martial arts. If you want a hairstyle that doesn’t get in the way and feels comfortable performing floor exercises, then the braided space bun is perfect for you.”

What You’ll Need:

  • a comb

  • two (2) hair ties

How To:

  • Section your hair into two parts, from the middle of your forehead to the back of your head.

  • Braid the right section of your hair towards the right crown of your head.

  • To braid: separate hair into three parts, then cross the far side over to the center to replace, repeat on the opposite side, and add hair as you continue.

  • Once you finish braiding the right side, secure it with a hair tie, and pull the tail through to create a bun.

  • Repeat on the left side.

2. Boxer Braids

Workout Hairstyle - Boxer Braids

“A fighter's favorite! Boxer braids are a clean look and will channel your inner fighter. Complete this look with boxer shorts and knock out your workout! If you are transitioning to a casual look after, unravel your boxer braids to reveal wavy hair.”

What You’ll Need:

  • comb

  • two (2) hair ties

How To:

  • Using the tail end of a comb, separate your hair into two parts from the middle of your forehead to the back of your head.

  • Next, start on one side. Take three small sections of hair, and begin braiding by swapping the left section to the center to replace, then the right section to the center to replace.

  • Continue braiding and add in hair from each side as you work your way down to the back of your head. This is a cornrow.

  • Secure the ends of your braid with a hair tie.

  • Repeat on the other side for a pigtail style.

3. Pom Pom Pony

Workout Hairstyle - Pom-Pom Pony

“Another way to add flavor to a traditional look. The pom pom pony looks so flawless on camera and doesn’t take long to style. I prefer this hairstyle before a photoshoot, this way my hair can fly when I perform action shots.”

What You'll Need:

  • hairbrush

  • hair ties

How To:

  • Use a brush to gather your hair up on the crown of your head.

  • Secure your hair in a high ponytail with a hair tie.

  • Next, loop a second hair tie, about two inches down the ponytail.

  • Continue down the ponytail, spacing hair ties about two inches apart.

  • Lastly, pull apart the hair in between each hair tie to fluff it and get the pom pom look.

4. High Pony Braid

Workout Hairstyle - High Pony Braid

“This is the Classic Instructor look. It’s sleek and transferable from workout wear to casual. We complete this look with hair wax, so it stays fresh and fights against sweat.”

What You'll Need:

  • hair wax

  • hairbrush

  • hair extension

  • two (2) hair ties

How To:

  • Apply a small amount of hair wax around the edges of the hair.

  • Use a brush to smooth the hair and gather it towards the crown of your head.

  • Secure it in a high ponytail with a hair tie.

  • Add in a hair extension by folding it in two halves and placing it over the natural hair.

  • Separate the natural hair into two sections and add to the hair extension sections.

  • Create a third strand, then begin braiding by replacing the center strand with one side and then the next side.

  • When you reach the end of the ponytail, secure the braid with a hair tie.
