With continued training, every boxer starts to develop their own rhythm and their favorite boxing punch combinations. Learning new and advanced combos and incorporating them into your own boxing training and routine is key for developing your technique--plus, they’re fun!
These three (3) punch combinations are inspired by world champion boxers Danny Garcia, Muhammad Ali, and Bernard Hopkins (B. Hop). When you break down the punches step-by-step and slowly add them to your training, they will start to feel more natural. Here FightCamp Trainer Coach PJ will take you through each combination hit by hit.
COMBO 1 (Danny Garcia)
Rear Hook To The Body - Lead Hook x 3
4B - 3 - 4B - 3 - 4B - 3
Garcia is known for his mean lead hook, so really use that as your power shot in this combo.
Deliver a rear hook to the body
Follow with a lead hook to the face
Throw another powerful rear hook to the body
Return to the lead hook to the face
Throw one more direct rear hook to the body
Knock your opponent out with a final power lead hook to the face!
COMBO 2 (Muhammad Ali)
Feint - Jab - Feint - Cross - Jab - Cross - Lead Hook - Cross
F1 - F2 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 2
This combo incorporates some feints, which just means you are fooling your opponent with a fake punch. You want your opponent to make a move and miss, then finish them off while they’re disoriented.
Feint, then quickly throw the jab
Feint, then quickly throw the cross
Draw your rear hand back to your face
Rapidly deliver the jab-cross-lead hook-cross combo
Knockout your opponent with a power shot in that final cross!
COMBO 3 (Bernard Hopkins)
Rear Hook - Lead Uppercut To The Body - Jab - Rear Hook - Cross - Lead Uppercut - Cross - Lead Hook - Cross - Lead Hook
4 - 5B - 1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 3
B. Hop’s combo is a little more intricate, but if you break it down and go slow it will become more natural.
Start with a rear hook followed by a lead uppercut to the body
Your opponent should drop their hands to defend their torso, this is when you gain the advantage
Throw a quick jab-rear hook
Follow with a cross-uppercut, again trying to keep your opponent’s fists lowered
With their defenses down, finish them off with two powerful cross-lead hook combos to the face!
