People nowadays take having good health more seriously and set goals to become their healthiest selves. Exercise to improve the heart and meditation to improve the mind are some of the goals that I hear at the top of many lists. One of the most important things to consider when creating a goal you can achieve is to make sure your goals are SPECIFIC.  When it comes to goals centered around health, it’s key to understand the differences between a fitness goal and a wellness goal.  Don’t worry! You haven’t been doing it wrong, but recognizing the importance of both types of these health goals will help you to achieve the improved state of health many of us looking for.

What is a Fitness Goal?

A fitness goal is a goal centered around some sort of activity. For example, running a half marathon by your 50th birthday, stretching for 10 minutes every morning for a month, getting in 12,000 steps a day, or increasing your output in your boxing classes on the FightCamp app are all examples of fitness goals.

What is a Wellness Goal?

A wellness goal is usually a goal that improves health that doesn’t involve exercise. Instead, it’s typically centered around your overall mental wellbeing or nutrition. For example, popular wellness goals include cutting sugar or alcohol from your diet, meditating for 5 minutes upon waking, going to bed 30 minutes earlier, and taking weekly breaks from social media.

Setting Your Goals

Both fitness and wellness goals have a place in your overall health routine. Choose one fitness goal and one wellness to tackle at a time.  Don’t forget to make them SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-based).
